The Tropical Infectious Diseases Group

The Tropical Infectious Diseases Group research centers around diseases caused by enteric and blood parasites as well as antimicrobial resistance, and microbial causes of diarrhea and severe infections in resource poor settings.

The group currently has projects focusing on diagnostics of malaria, cryptosporidium and leishmaniasis, as well as immune responses against Plasmodium, Giardia and ETEC infection. Research is conducted into the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance and how probiotics or antibiotic prophylaxis may affect it. Research into identify markers of metronidazole resistance in Giardia is also conducted.
