2024 marks 750 years since Landsloven, the Norwegian Law of the Land, was issued by king Magnus Lagabøte (the Lawmender). The Law builds upon earlier local and international traditions, as well as the first Christian Law for Norway which also has its 1000 years jubilee this year (Moster 1024). The Law of the Land was one of the longest standing laws in Norwegian history, abolished after more than four centuries of use.

The Research Group Literature & Religion invites you to an event where Alexandros Tsakos and Helen Frances Leslie-Jacobsen will present the exciting upcoming roster of events that have been organized to celebrate the Landslov-jubilee. The presentations will be an occasion to also talk about recent work and ongoing projects concerning medieval law at UiB.

Dr Alexandros  Tsakos is Senior Academic Librarian and Scientific Director of Manuscripts' and Rare Books' Collection at the Special Collections of the University of Bergen Library.

Prof Helen Frances Leslie-Jacobsen is Associate Professor in Medieval Philology at the University of Bergen.
