The beautiful Madonna from Kyrkjebø in Sogn is currently being exhibited to a European audience in Utrecht. But what is her story? And can some fragments from a medieval manuscript, once attached on the inside of the hollow body, contribute to the story of the Madonna?
“I never tire of studying medieval manuscripts. Even though my source material is Norwegian, it is also fundamentally international. This gives the research a broader perspective and forces international cooperation”, Professor Åslaug Ommundsen says.

Earlier this autumn two new researchers were put to work on book fragments: Astrid Marner (Post-doc) and Synnøve Myking (PhD). Together with project leader Åslaug Ommundsen and the English paleographer Michael Gullick they will contribute to the knowledge about medieval book culture.
