Christian Vision Literature

Kristelig visionslitteratur i norrøn tradition (Christian vision literature in Old Norse tradition) by Jonas Wellendorf

Main content

This book is the first comprehensive discussion of the Old Norse visions. Vision literature is a medieval European genre dealing with people who returned from the afterlife to tell about their experiences – as a warning, but also to entertain and to amuse. In this book, the author has studied the fundamental texts of the genre, the genre’s characteristics and what notions Old Norse men and women had about life after death.

The book is a revised version of the author’s Ph.D. thesis and appeared as the second volume in the series Bibliotheca Nordica published by Novus in Oslo. It was published in 2009.
