Quaternary geology and Paleoclimate

Main content

Main objectives: To reconstruct synchronous ice sheet margin, or time-slice maps, depicting the evolution of the Eurasian Ice Sheets (including the Scandinavian, British-Irish, Barents-Kara-Sea and Svalbard Ice Sheets) through the last glacial cycle. These maps, and the associated database of dates including stratigraphic interpretations, are based on a review of almost all available geological evidence that constrain the extent and timing of the former ice sheet complex.  The compilations will provide a critical empirical test for results from numerical and isostatic ice sheet modelling, as well as an archive for the geological community.
