Profile description

Migration, ethnic relations, development, poverty and environment are all sociological topics that are relevant for the current political discussion locally, nationally as well as globally.

Main content

Migration, development and environment are topics made particularly relevant by globalization processes. Challenges in relation to these topics cut across borders and make up the basis for political and social mobilization both from below and above. The researchers in this group work with the challenges posed by these topics today.

The research group is especially concerned with the following problems:

  • How are national and global patterns of social inequality and migration affected by environmental challenges and supranational actions to reduce poverty?
  • What does it mean that western countries import labor to do the jobs we do not want to ourselves? How does this affect gender roles?
  • How do scientific knowledge environmental challenges translate into politics?
  • How are environmental problems created? How does the society react to these? And what institutional solutions are possible?
  • What are the future challenges in the relation between climate change, environmental refugees and poverty?
  • How do national and supranational debates and politics concerning integration, religion and immigration affect the daily life of immigrants and descendants of immigrants in Western-Europe and other parts of the world?
