Clumped Isotope Thermometry as a new tool for transforming paleo-oceanography
Main objectives: Clumped isotope thermometry is a novel technique to reconstruct past temperatures, based on the ordering of isotopes within molecules. Within CLIP and the partner-project C4T, we will work towards improving this innovative technique to make it applicable to reconstructions of past ocean temperatures using fossil shells of foraminifera. CLIP will mainly focus on improving the clumped isotope calibration for foraminifera. The proxy will be used to reconstruct ocean temperatures during the Pliocene and across the Northern Hemisphere glaciation, marking the transition to the Pleistocene, with particular focus on the North Atlantic.
