Diversity in the Norwegian Police

In collaboration with researchers at the Norwegian Police University College, we are studying the nature and consequences of diversity in the Norwegian Police. Increased diversity among employees, an inclusive working environment and equal career opportunities are among the objectives in the Police department’s diversity policy. We want to investigate how police officers experience their working environment and career opportunities. We are also interested in investigating whether there are systematic differences between different groups of employees in experiences of the work environment and career opportunities. In this project we have a broad approach to diversity, focusing on gender, sexual orientation, immigration background, etc. In the autumn of 2016 /spring of 2017, about 3,000 police staff answered questions about diversity, working environment and career paths in a comprehensive questionnaire.
