Optimization of a functionalized copolymer scaffolds stimulating stem cells and bone regeneration

For repair of bone defects, a tissue engineering approach would be to combine an appropriate scaffolding material and fabrication method with cells capable of osteogenic activity to stimulate bone repair.

Main content

By controlling the hydrophilicity and the bio-activity of the surface microstructure as well as the mechanical properties, the copolymers currently being designed and produced by rapid prototyping technique can be good candidates for use as scaffolds in tissue engineering. Therefore, in this project we are studying and optimizing the newly developed bioactive polymer by using different biological approaches.
