Launch: Norway-Pacific Ocean-Climate Scholarship Programme

On 28 April 2020, the Norway-Pacific Ocean-Climate Scholarship Programme (N-POC) is launched in a virtual event hosted by Norway's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. N-POC is a groundbreaking new and interdisciplinary PhD programme in ocean and climate science, in a collaboration between Norway and the Pacific Islands.

On 28 April 2020, the University of Bergen and long-term partner the University of the South Pacific will announce a new partnership in ocean and climate science: the Norway-Pacific Ocean-Climate Scholarship Programme (N-POC). The programme is funded by Norway's Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).

Norway's Minister for International Development Mr. Dag-Inge Ulstein and representatives from the Pacific Islands are launching the programme with remarks by UiB's Rector Dag Rune Olsen and USP's Vice-Rector and President Pal Ahluwalia.

N-POC is a four-year PhD programme and builds on a previous voluntary commitment between UiB and USP, which was launched at the UN Ocean Conference in June 2017.
