In October 2019, the University of Bergen was engaging in the science-policy nexus at Our Ocean in Oslo. This included a side event on the ongoing biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction (BBNJ) negotiations, with a panel comprising of scientific expertise and diplomacy.

This all happened as part of a hectic week for SDG Bergen Science Advice and Ocean Sustainability Bergen (OSB), the week starting with the inaugural OSB Conference (21-22 October) followed by Our Ocean (22-24 October) and ending with accompanying Palau’s President Tommy Remengesau to the Austevoll archipelago south of Bergen for a combined science and cultural expedition (25 October).

This year, Our Ocean takes place in the Pacific island nation Palau 7-8 December with President Remengesau as host and the University of Bergen hopes to announce activities in conjunction with this event, either physical or virtual.

Our Ocean 2020 will focus on six areas of action, convening partners from across the globe to identify solutions to manage marine resources, increase the ocean’s resilience to climate change and safeguard its health for generations to come.
