FEMINISM, LITERATURE, PHILOSOPHY: A Tribute to Toril Moi
Seminar by University of Bergens new Honorary Doctorate Professor Toril Moi, Duke University.
Professor Toril Moi's thinking about feminism, philosophy and literature is known to academics in the humanities all over the world. Her brilliant and sharp commentaries on questions of gender, genres and all kind of speech acts have inspired colleagues, students and scholars in a wide range of academic fields. For her work, Moi will recieve an Honorary Doctorate at the University of Bergen October 15th 2019.
The day prior to her day of distinction she will give a talk entitled: "Never treat characters as if they were real people": About a dogma in literary studies.
After Moi's talk we have gathered professors Corina Stan (Duke University), Margaretha Fahlgren (Uppsala University) and Christine Hamm (University of Bergen) in order to discuss the impact of Moi's research in Norway, Scandianvia and USA.
They will also shed light on Moi as a person dedicated to writing, teaching and mentoring.
The event is in collaboration with Department of Linguistic, Literary and Aesthetic Studies.
