Sports Traumatology and Arthroscopy Research Group (STAR Group) have, with primary focus on conditions of the knee, an aim to contribute to regional and national academic development while keeping the patients in the center of our research. Haraldsplass Deaconess Hospital has been one of the leading centers in advanced knee surgery, especially regarding anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). The research group works in an environment close to the patients, limiting the distance between clinical issues and research questions. The group is interdiciplinary, with members from orthopedics, physiotherapy and radiology.

Results from previous and ongoing research from STAR has had a visible impact on surgical tenichques, increasing patients safety, reducing the number of revision surgeries and inspiring new routines for radiological examinations. Projects from STAR have recieved international honours and research fundings from Samarbeidsorganet Helse Vest on a number of occasions. STAR has several PhD candidates and are also leading independent projects together with national and international associates.
