Service Declaration for the University of Bergen

The University of Bergen’s Service Declaration is an overview of offers, services and help that the university is obligated to provide to students, as well as a list of expectations that the university has in terms of student behaviour and individual effort.

What is the Service Declaration?

The University of Bergen’s Service Declaration is an overview of offers, services and help that the university is obligated to provide students, as well as a list of expectations that the university has in terms of student behaviour and effort The declaration is in conformity with official instructions and regulations laid down by the authorities.


The service declaration is general in nature and is supplemented by administrative and academic information posted on UiB’s web pages. The service declaration also pertains to services provided by Sammen (Student Welfare Organization).

UiB aims to develop students academically and intellectually. Within the study programmes, the university shall provide students with a high-level research-based education that is in demand in society and that satisfies the academic demands of a fully adequate university education. Furthermore, the university shall develop the student’s ability to plan and carry out an academic study programme.

Students and staff members are encouraged to provide feedback on this service declaration and on the aspects that it covers. We also welcome feedback on aspects that should be covered but are not, and we welcome other points of view relevant to the declaration.

To whom does the Service Declaration apply?

The service declaration applies to everyone who is enrolled in a study programme at UiB. It also applies to international students, when relevant.

In the absence of a separate service declaration or equivalent service agreement in the study contracts for post-graduate and continuing education students, this service declaration shall also apply when relevant for these students.

Rights and obligations at the master’s degree level are discussed in particular in the individual study plan found under Mitt UiB.

The declaration also discusses the rights and obligations of applicants applying for admission to UiB.

The declaration does not apply to examination candidates who are not admitted as regular students (external candidates).

Students’ legal rights are laid down in statutes and regulations and other sources, including UiB’s regulations, and are not a part of this document.
