UiB follows the guidelines from the health authorities. Be aware that UiB's advice may change in line with the infection situation in Bergen. Please stay tuned to uib.no/corona. As a UiB student, there are some important steps you should take to protect yourself and to help reduce the spread of coronavirus (Covid19):

Complete the UiB e-learning course: All students must complete and pass the E-learning course in Protective Measures before arriving on campus.

Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly: The health authorities recommend hand washing/sanitising when arriving at the place of study, before meals and when you move from place to place. Be especially cautious if you have touched contact points that are used by many people, such as railings, door handles and reading room spaces.

Cleaning: Clean contact surfaces in the reading room space and teaching premises before using and when you leave.

Keep your distance: The disease is predominantly transmitted through droplet infection and contact. Keep a distance of one metre from those around you. This applies everywhere, all of the time – whether you are attending a lecture, at a shop or out on the town.

Lecture halls and reading rooms: UiB observes the government guidelines on infection control and gatherings. For this reason, the reading rooms will have limited capacity until further notice. The same applies to lecture halls. You will receive information about what is applicable for your programme of study.

Give the bus and light railway a miss if you can: Public transport may become crowded, making it difficult to keep your distance from other travellers.

Follow instructions issued by UiB: Infection control officers will be present on campus to help ensure that the guidelines are followed. Teachers will have a special focus on infection control in teaching situations. Student buddies have also been trained in infection control. Please follow the instructions they provide.

Face coverings: The Norwegian Institute of Public Health is currently preparing new recommendations concerning the use of face coverings. Regardless of these recommendations, it is essential that everyone understands that face coverings cannot replace restrictions on numbers or distancing regulations associated with events. If increased use of face coverings is recommended, it will purely be as an additional measure to the other basic infection control regulations applicable to society.

No alcohol served after 12 AM: In order to prevent the spread of the corona virus, Norwegian authorities have decided that no alcohol is to be served after 12 AM at public bars and restaurants. This implies that all UiB premises will be closed and emptied at 12 AM during the Fadderuke.

Illness, testing and tracing:

Students often fall into an age group that experiences mild symptoms of COVID-19 if infected. To minimise the spread of the disease, it is therefore essential that you stay home and book an appointment for testing even if you do not feel very ill.

“Symptoms” refer to respiratory infections with one or more of the following symptoms:
fever, cough, breathing difficulties, sore throat, feeling unwell. It is important that everyone who experiences symptoms of respiratory infection is tested. Having a fever is not a requirement.

Do you feel unwell or as though you are coming down with a cold? Stay home. Avoid teaching, work, training or social situations. Get in touch with the health service as soon as possible if you feel unwell and think you may have been infected by COVID-19. You will find information about symptoms and what to do at helsenorge.no. You can also have your questions answered via chat.

Get tested: The recommendation from the Municipality of Bergen is for everyone experiencing respiratory infection symptoms to be tested for COVID-19/coronavirus. You do not need a referral from a doctor and the test is free of charge. But you must make an appointment with the test centre in advance. You can book an appointment here

Stay home while you are waiting for your results: Everyone who gets tested should stay home until they have received a negative test result and no longer have any symptoms. Everyone who is diagnosed with COVID-19 must isolate and will be followed up on by the health service.

Have you been spending time with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19? In each case, the health service will conduct infection tracing and you will be informed about what applies to you. There is a differentiation between “members of the same household or equivalent” and “other close contact”. More info in different languages is found here.  You will be informed by the health service what applies to you and you will also receive information about any testing and, if applicable, quarantine.

Are you in quarantine or at risk? It is possible to follow the teaching digitally in most study programmes. Let your faculty know and we will help you.

Becoming unwell while on campus? Students who develop respiratory infection symptoms/symptoms of COVID-19 while on campus must immediately keep their distance from others and go home. Avoid using the bus and light railway if possible. Wear a face covering if you have no choice but to take public transport. You can obtain a face covering from your department if you do not have one yourself.

Make sure to register for teaching in StudentWeb for all courses in which you participate: This is important to ensure that UiB knows who to notify if anyone is diagnosed with COVID-19.

Have you been diagnosed with COVID-19? UiB would like to implement measures to limit the spread of coronavirus. Please notify us as soon as possible if you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and have attended the UiB campus.
