Arrival and Directions
Arrival information for new students to UiB.
Arriving in Bergen
Step 1: Arrival and check-in
Students staying at any Sammen student accommodation can pick up their key from 1 or 2 January. The pick up points are either Fantofthallen or the Student Centre in the city centre, depending on your place of residence.
If you have been allocated housing at Fantoft, Fridalen or Brann Stadion, you must pick up your key at Fantoft Servicesenter (Fantoftveien 14i) from 1 January.
For all other hostels, you need to collect your keys at the Sammen Information Desk at the Student Centre (Parkveien 1) from 2 January.
Please note that the University of Bergen does not offer key assistance help or airport meetup. It's possible to have someone else pick up your key for you, but you need to notify Sammen at email@example.com and state the name of the person coming to pick it up. If you are not able to collect your keys within Sammen openings hours, you will have to find alternative accommodation through for instance:
Step 2: Finding your accommodations
After picking up your keys, you can continue on to your accommodations:
- For directions from the airport to Fantoft Student Hostel.
- For directions from the city centre to Alrek Student Hostel.
The most affordable way to travel from the airport is via public transit through Bergen Light Rail (bybanen) Skyss or Flybussen. Using Flybussen to travel from the airport costs more than using bybanen (Skyss), however the travel time is faster.
You can also see our Getting around Bergen page for general information about public transportation in Bergen. If you have a lot of luggage or have arrived so late that public transportation is not running, you may wish to get a taxi. Taxis are usually parked outside the airport terminal.
Confirmation of arrival
If you are an exchange student and need to have a Confirmation of Arrival form or Learning Agreement signed, please visit your Faculty Information Centre.
