Norwegian ID number
The Norwegian ID number is an 11 digit personal identifier, issued by the Tax Administration office (Skatteetaten). The number will be issued to foreign nationals with a residence permit in Norway.

NON-EU/EFTA citizens
Students staying in Norway for more than 6 month, will be registered at the Tax Administration office after completing the registration with the police authorities*
*The letter with the ID number will be sent to your registered address by the Tax Administration office. It is extremely important that you bring your correct and complete address to the police appointment (check your housing contract). Otherwise, you will not be able to receive the letter from the tax administration.

EU/EFTA citizens
EU/EFTA students staying in Norway for more than 2 semester must register at the Tax administration office after completing the registration with the police authorities.

Exemption: Students staying in Norway for up to two semester may apply for a Norwegian ID number if this is required in connection with part time job or due to medical reasons.
