Norwegian ID number
The Norwegian D number is an 11 digit personal identifier, issued by the Tax Administration office (Skatteetaten). The number will be issued to foreign nationals with a residence permit in Norway.

EU/EFTA students staying in Norway for more than six months must apply for a Norwegian ID number after obtaining the registration certificate from the local police authorities.

NON-EU/EFTA citizens
Students staying in Norway for more than 6 month, will be registered at the Tax Administration office after completing the registration with the police authorities.
The letter with the ID number will be sent to your registered address by the Tax Administration office. It is very important that you register your correct and complete address when applying for the residence card and notify the police if you have changed your address.
Please note that the Norwegian ID-number is not granted authomatically and many students will be granted a D-number: Difference between D-number and Norwegian ID number If you are staying more than 6 months and have received an D number (temporary number) you may register a move to Norway in order to receive a Norwegian ID number.
