Reading lists are becoming digital
The reading lists are entering the digital age, so that you with a few keystrokes can collect references, give students access to the list via Mitt UiB and ask for digitization to Litteraturkiosken.
Main content
Our new digital reading list system is replacing today’s solution for uploading reading lists to Mitt UiB and registration of references to Litteraturkiosken. Everything can now be done in the same system.
Why are we doing this?
Today there are many manual processes involved in creating and distributing the reading lists. The purpose of this system is to make reading lists a better learning tool for the students, and to simplify the work on the reading lists for the departments. UiB is one of many universities and colleges which are starting to use such a system.
How does the system work?
The system is called Leganto and it is a tool for creating, managing and publishing reading lists, where references can be imported from other sources. Access to the literature is shown automatically, either by location and lending status in the library or with links to digital versions. When published, the lists will automatically be available for the students from the course page in Mitt UiB.
What are the benefits of digital reading lists?
- Minimizing manual registration
- References with assured quality
- Easier registration of digitization to Litteraturkiosken
- One master version of the reading list, changes will automatically be updated everywhere the list is integrated
- Clear information to the students on the accessibility of references
- Easier and more organized communication between all involved participants
See UiB’s user guide or the vendor’s video for more information on the system. See also a reading list example from one of the pilot courses.
Deployment of the system
This autumn the system will be deployed at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Psychology and Faculty of Social Sciences, so that lists for the spring semester 2019 courses can be made in Leganto. The rest of the faculties will follow during the spring semester 2019 (for lists for the autumn semester 2019). Detailed information on the system and training will be sent out to the relevant faculties.
