Juba University Library Automation Project (JULAP)

Project description/goals

The overall aim of the project is to establish a library service for research and education with the relevant academic literature (print and electronic) at the Universitety of Juba, Southern Sudan. The project will also help building a library organisation and train personnel to run the library according to modern technological principles.

The project comprises among other things:

  • Selection and implementation of an integrated electronic library system
  • Conversion of existing card catalogue
  • Acquisition of literature (print and e-resources)
  • Building web pages (library portal)
  • Building up a print / copy service
  • Establishing an institutional archive
  • Training of personnel

Financing/contributers

The project is a part of the programme "Norwegian University Cooperation Program for Capacity Building in Sudan" (NUCOOP), financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs/NORAD through the Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Higher Education (SIU). SIU has allocated NOK 7.627.660 to the project. In addition the project partners make contributions from their own resources.
