Cuba after the Castros

2019 marks the 60th anniversary of the Cuban revolution. Although international media have for a long time speculated about Cuba’s post-Castro future, the question is particularly acute today. 2019 is also the first year since the revolution of 1959 that Cuba’s (de facto) head of state is not one of the Castro brothers (Fidel and Raúl).

We have invited Elizabeth Dore (University of Southampton), Ariel Camejo (University of Havana) and Even Sandvik Underlid (University of Bergen) to discuss the future of «Cuba after the Castros». Our panel will address political and historical as well as cultural aspects of contemporary Cuba. The discussion, which will be conducted in English, is moderated by Vegard Bye. Organized by the Research Group for Radical Philosophy and Literature (University of Bergen) in collaboration with the House of Literature in Bergen, and with financial support from the University of Bergen, the House of Literature and the Fritt Ord Foundation.
