Representing Islam: What is the future of the study of Islam?

This workshop will address how Islam is represented within different disciplinary fields. The topic has been raised by Varisco (2005)Marranci (2008) and Hughes (2007). The workshop will on this basis discuss the topic,  from different disciplinary approaches with questions like:

What kind of knowledge about Islam and Muslims do we as researchers produce?

What are the prevalent perspectives and approaches to Islam and Muslims in use by the various disciplinary fields?

Is the knowledge we produce about Islam and Muslims changing, and if so what is the future of the study of Islam?
