NEW DATE: "The greenest city in Norway"

Due to new regulations from UiB in relation to the corona-virus, this lunch meeting was postponed until November 3.

Are Børjesson and Elisabeth Sørheim from Bergen Kommune will talk about the ambitions of becoming "The greenest city in Norway", the action in progress, and the results of the specific goals of decreasing the city's emissions by 50% by 2020 on Tuesday 31st of March. 

Abstract: The City Government’s ambition is for Bergen to become the greenest city in Norway, and for Bergen to play an active rolein realising the UN’s sustainable development goals. The city has implemented a green strategy and an actionplan that describes how Bergen shall be a driving force for renewable energy and green, sustainable business. The goal is to develop a green economy, apply sustainable development and promote best practices. A climate budget was implemented in 2018.

Sustainable city: The city works according to the Unites Nations Sustainable Development Goals to address the global challenges weface, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, peace and justice.
Some facts:

  • Public transport increased by 50% 2014-2018
  • CO2 emissions decreased by 7 % 2009-2017
  • Private car use during rush hour decreased by 12% 2012-2018
  • 20% of the cars that passed the toll rings in 2018 were zero-emission cars
  • Using fossil fuel for heating purposes is prohibited from 2020. A refund is granted to cover some of the expense of buying a fossil-free heating source.

In 2020 we will be working with plans regarding strategy and actions for the years to come - how to reach the goal of being fossil free in 2030.

 

Seminar speakers

Are Børjesson is an advisor to Bergen municipality, the climate section. His primary responsibilities are to work with the Green strategy of Bergen, the roadmap to a fossils fuels free city in 2030. Are is responsible for introducing and developing climate budgeting as an innovative management tool in the municipality.
