New PhD position in Musicology
At the Grieg Academy–Department of Music/Grieg Research Centre there is a vacant position as PhD.research fellow in musicology. Application deadline: 1 August 2020. The position is for a fixed-term period of 4 years starting 01.01.2021. and is financed by the University of Bergen (UiB).
About the project/work tasks:
The successful applicant must carry out his or her project within the indicated field. It is expected that the successful applicant will complete the project within the period of appointment. The position’s main goal is to lead to a PhD degree, which qualifies for independent research activities, and for other work that requires particular qualifications.
About the subject areas:
Musicology in the Grieg Academy-Department of Music has a broad international orientation, emphasising knowledge about music related to cultural and social theory, as well as newer approaches in musicology and media studies. The Department's research profile in musicology includes work within the fields of popular music, ethnomusicology, critical musicology, gender and sexuality, music and politics, and Norwegian traditional music. Other areas of competence include the music of Russia, Turkey, and the Nordic region. The Department houses the Arne Bjørndal Collection, a folk music archive with a primary focus on the collection of and research on musical traditions from western Norway. The Department maintains a close cooperation with KODE about the Centre for Grieg Research. The Centre for Grieg Research focus on the study of the music of Edvard Grieg, his historical role and cultural actuality, as well as the musical life locally and regionally.
