Sammendrag:

The two-level overlapping additive Schwarz method is a typical choice of preconditioner
when solving an elliptic partial differential equation (PDE) with a Finite Element
Method (FEM) and Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient method (PCG). In this seminar,
we will look at the role of the coarse space in the two-level method and how this has developed
over time. We found our investigation in the Schwarz framework, and claim that
the role of the coarse space is to approximate the solution in the region of overlap. We will
have a look at some modern examples of coarse spaces found in the scientific literature
to compare with our claim. For the participants, it might be an advantage to have some
knowledge or interest in solving second order scalar elliptic PDEs and the use of FEM. I
