Abstract:
Throughout human history access to and use of energy have been critical for human progress. As populations grow and thrive, so does the need for more energy. However, for the first time in our history, this increasing demand is contributing to rising pressure on our environment and climate. To help safeguard the prosperity and well-being of future generations, the world must find ways to produce more and cleaner energy… and use it better. At Shell we have adopted this to our purpose: To find more and cleaner energy solutions. As such we have embraced the Paris Agreement and made public announcements on reducing our net carbon footprint in line with this agreement. As is clear, to achieve the Paris Goals, tight collaboration is needed among academia, policy makers and industry – in particular on policy and regulatory frameworks, but, significantly, also on R&D and technology Innovation. We strongly believe that through such collaboration we can all thrive during the energy transition. In this talk I will focus on some of the exciting technology challenges and what Shell Technology contributes to build a sustainable future for all.
