Title: "Critical roles of Chitinase 3-like 1 (CHI3L1) in inflammation, fibrosis and cancer."

Abstract: Chitinase 3-like protein 1 (CHI3L1) is a key regulatory protein playing important roles in inflammation, which is related to fibrosis and cancer. In this talk, basic biological function of CHI3L1 will be discussed and then the focus will be on the roles of CHI3L1 in liver diseases including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NALFD) and hepatitis, and its implications in cancer.

Bio: Dr. Biaoyang Lin is a Professor, the Chief Scientist and the Founding Director of the Systems Biology Division of Zhejiang-California International NanoSystems Institute, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, and an Affiliate Associate Professor at the Dept. of Urology, University of Washington, Seattle, WA. Dr. Lin’s major long-term research interests lie in applying systems biology’s approach to understand the biology of inflammation, fibrosis and cancer of liver and prostate, to identify accompanying diagnostic or prediction biomarkers, and to develop novel therapeutic approaches.
Dr. Lin published over 100 peer-reviewed papers including publications in Science, Nature, PNAS, Cancer Research, Molecular and cellular proteomics etc., and many of them were highly cited (>100 times per article), and one cited > 1200 times (Science 2004, 306(5696):640-643). Dr. Lin delivered over 40 invited talks at conferences and research organizations around the world.
