VIDEO SEMINAR: Bruk av GIS i digital humaniora
I dette første digitale arrangementet til DHnettverket holder forskere lynforedrag om hvordan de bruker GIS i sin forskning, så blir det smågruppediskusjoner og tilslutt spørsmål til talerne i plenum.

Computational methods are finding increasingly wider adoption in humanities research, GIS being one of the most prominent of them. What attracts so many digital humanities scholars to use GIS technology is its applicability to quantitative and qualitative types of analyses, as well as its convenience for documenting and visualizing the data.
In this online lightning talk round we have gathered 4 researchers, experts in history, linguistics and archaeology, to give us glimpses into how GIS is implemented into their projects:
Eivind Heldaas Seland (Professor in Ancient history and premodern global history at UiB, Department of Archaeology, History, Cultural Studies and Religion): GIS-approaches to historical land use, settlement and communication in arid lands: The example of the Syrian Desert.
Krister Vasshus (PhD candidate in Nordic languages at UiB, Department of Linguistic, Literary and Aesthetic Studies): Using GIS for studying place names.
Paola Derudas (PhD candidate in archaeology at Lund University, Department of Archaeology and Ancient History): 3D GIS for documenting and managing archaeological excavation data.
Anatolijs Venovcevs (PhD candidate in archaeology at UiT, Department of Archaeology, History, Religious Studies and Theology): Mapping Subterranean Worlds - Public Utilities as Unseen Historical and Social Arenas.
FORMAT:
“Virtual Lightning Talks” replicates this conference activity online in a Zoom video meeting environment.
Our “GIS in Digital Humanities” seminar will consist of four 5 minute lightning talks, followed by discussions in smaller groups. In the end of the seminar there will be 15-30 min for a plenary Q&A session.
The speakers will present their work by sharing their desktop; the presentation can consist of slides or any other application that can be shown on the desktop.

The University of Bergen's Network is primarily a platform for local DH researchers to network and learn about each others' work, but events are open to all, and now we are online we are happy to welcome guests from far outside Bergen's borders. The event will be held in English.
