Carbonate geophysics

This project aims to understand the acoustical behaviour of carbonate rocks in response to changing pressure, pore fluid type and mineral composition.

Hovedinnhold

Carbonate rocks have a complicated pore structure, which also may change considerably with burial. Furthermore, the porosity often exists on several scales, and their seismic expression may be difficult to understand. The present research is to understand the acoustic properties of carbonate rocks, and how these may change with the changes in pressure, pore fluid type and rock mineral composition (e.g., limestone dolomitization). The project is sponsored by the Norwegian Research Council and VISTA.
