PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Progressive footwall uplift and migration of fault activity at the southern margin of the Corinth Rift, Greece, led to the preservation of spectacularly exposed down-stepping coarse-grained deltas. Detailed sedimentary studies and precise mapping of the delta bodies are highly needed in order to better constraint the evolution of the Corinth Rift southern margin. This project will use a combination of photogrammetry and terrestrial LiDAR datasets to characterize the geometry of the delta lobes and quantify variations in their position, grainsize and depositional architecture. A detailed digital outcrop model will be generated and combined with the sedimentological and sequence stratigraphic information to understand the geological processes controlling this type of coarse-grained delta deposits.
