Workshop Description
Reactivity in the research process is exemplified by a research participant who replies in ways she assumes will please the interviewer; fills out a survey in ways that accord with her conception of what are socially acceptable answers; or changes her behavior because the experimenter is a woman. The aim of the present workshop is 1) to map out and analyze the multifarious ways in which reactivity occurs in social research and 2) to discuss what constitutes the proper way of responding to the occurrence of reactivity.
