BBB seminar: Thoralf Christoffersen

EGF receptor and G-protein signalling - basic and clinical aspects

Hovedinnhold

Thoralf Christoffersen
Department of Pharmacology, Rikshospitalet University Hospital, Oslo

In this lecture signalling mechanisms and the role of epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFRs), G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), and cyclooxygenases (COXs) in cell proliferation and malignancy will be discussed. Some recent results and unresolved issues that have emerged internationally from clinical trials, using novel pharmacological antitumour agents that target these molecules and their pathways will also be reviewed. Finally, investigations of how growth-regulating signalling from EGFRs and GPCRs is integrated in the cell will be described, including studies from the lecturers group.

Host: Stein-Ove Døskeland, Department of Biomedicine

Professor Thoralf Christoffersen's field of research is cellular signal transduction, primarily as related to cell growth and cancer and as a potential target for pharmacological interference. The work has particularly focused on mechanisms that convey and integrate signalling from the epidermal growth factor receptor and G protein-coupled receptors. Attempts are also being made to transfer basic understanding in this field to clinical pharmacology and therapy.
