Modelling the future energy system in Longyearbyen – Hans-Kristian Ringkjøb (GFI)

PhD-candidate at the Geophysical Institute, Hans-Kristian Ringkjøb, presented some preliminary results of his modelling study on the future energy system in Longyearbyen on the Bergen Energy Lab lunch meeting the 28^th of November.

In his work, Hans-Kristian has modelled Longyearbyen’s energy system from today until 2050, with the goal of identifying possible pathways to transition Longyearbyen into a city supplied with renewable energy sources. The results indicate that a combination of solar, wind and energy storage could be an effective solution for Longyearbyen in the future.
