REQUBE

Reconstructing basin configuration and evolution in the North Sea

Hovedinnhold

FUNDING: NRC (Petromaks2)

PROJECT PERIOD: 2017-2020

PROJECT COORDINATOR: Hans Petter Sejrup (UiB)

PROJECT PARTNERS: UiB, UiO, NAU, Lundin Norway AS

MAIN OBJECTIVES: Through this project we will establish a better understanding of the sedimentary layers deposited over the last 2.6 million years (Quaternary) in the central northern North Sea. These sediments which locally may reach a thickness of up to 1000m, are central in our understanding of migration of hydrocarbons, the development of the ice ages and in evaluation of this region for storage of CO2. In REQUBE it will be put an emphasis on the establishment of a good chronological framework (datings) and a good understanding of different types of depositional environments based on analyses of sediment cores. This will so be compiled with data from acoustic investigations to obtain knowledge on periods with glaciation, changes in sea level and climate change. Based on these results it will be carried out a numerical modelling on how the basin has developed through time.
