Hovedinnhold

Society is inevitably moving beyond oil. However, current rates of change are well below what is necessary to limit global warming to two degrees or less. Low and zero-carbon pathways will require systematic changes in economies, polities and societies. This will affect areas of the world and portions of populations unevenly. Furthermore, existing inequalities hinder the capacity for urgent change. Sustainable transformation must thus simultaneously address the geophysical and socioeconomic challenges of the early 21st century.

How can we accelerate transformation?

The Beyond Oil: Deep and Rapid Transformations conference has reached capacity and registration is now closed. If you would like to be on our waiting list please send an email.

Beyond Oil is organized in line with the CET Low Carbon Travel Policy.

Take the conference train!

Traveling from/via Oslo? Jump-start the conference by taking the conference train on Tuesday, October 15!

To encourage low carbon travelling, the Beyond Oil Committee has booked a train carriage on the 12.03 pm train leaving from Oslo to Bergen on Tuesday the 15th of October. The train ride is free of charge for those attending the Beyond Oil Conference.

You will be met on the platform by researchers from CET and they will facilitate lively discussions and workshops during the 7-hour train ride. The "Bergen train line (Bergensbanen)" is famous for its spectacular views so this is a perfect way to see the mountains of Norway, as well as engaging with fellow academics.

We are currently putting the finishing touches on the train programme; the train conference is divided into three sessions:

  • Academic engagement: What is the role of academia in supporting deep and rapid transformations.
  • Low Carbon academic practices, and
  • Embodied knowledge: How can literature and art help bridge the gap between intellectual knowledge and emotional knowledge.

Refreshments will be served on the train, as well as the possibility to visit the café carriage. The full program will be sent to participants as soon as it is ready.

Are you interested? There are still spaces on our train, please send your expressions of interested to our email
