Researchers with the System Dynamics Group have extensive methodological knowledge and key competencies such as interdisciplinary skills to develop sustainable solutions in various application domains and to further the field of system dynamics. Model-based policy analysis and design always takes into account the needs, acceptance and behaviours of stakeholders.

Recent Research Projects

WorldTrans - Transparent Assessments for Real People

WorldTrans aims to unpack the mystery of Integrated Assessment modelling and make the process of using such models more democratic and inclusive. UiB will lead the development of a new IAM with interactive learning environments and facilitate co-production processes with stakeholders.

Shaping European Research Leaders for Marine Sustainability (SEAS)

Marine and coastal areas face multifaceted challenges, threatening biodiversity and humanity on a global scale. Our sub-project addresses the challenges imposed by mining (seabed and other forms of mining) on the management of marine ecosystems and the industries and communities depending on them.

CO-CREATE – Confronting Obesity: Co-creating policy with youth

CO-CREATE aims to prevent overweight and obesity in adolescents by providing knowledge and infrastructure on policies to support making the healthiest choices the preferred ones. The UiB team will develop a system dynamics model to assess the potential impacts of policy options.

SYNAGRI: Developing synergies between the bioeconomy and regional food systems for a sustainable future

The aim of SYNAGRI is to understand the capacity for integration between an emerging bioeconomy and regional food systems, and develop strategies to promote an integrated, sustainable food system. The UiB team will evaluate the sustainability impacts and policy options for such integration.

Coastal Ocean Assessment for Sustainability and Transformation (COAST Card)

COAST Card is a stakeholder-driven tool that monitors, forecasts, and reports the effectiveness of management decisions on coastal and ocean sustainability. The UiB team will develop robust system dynamics models to provide scientific information and guidance (report cards) for the right stakeholders.

GREEN HEAT – towards collaborative local decarbonization

GREEN HEAT aims to contribute to the elimination of fossil fuelled boilers in Poland and to present feasible scenarios to decarbonise energy systems in Polish households. The UiB team will facilitate group modelling to develop a system dynamics model to assess the impacts of interventions.

SURE-Farm: Towards SUstainable and REsilient EU FARMing systems

SURE-Farm aims to analyze, assess and improve the resilience and sustainability of farms and farming systems in the EU. The UiB team leads the development of system dynamics models to contribute to the assessment of resilience in several case studies.

Africa’s Coexistence Landscapes (ACL)

ACL aims to understand human development drivers impacting on key coexistence landscapes in Sub-Saharan Africa. The main work of the UiB team is to develop and test stakeholder-generated system dynamics models in selected priority landscapes.
