Surveillance, Transparency and Accountability

What ethical, social, and policy implications does information technologies have? And who is accountable for how information technologies are used? The relationship between surveillance and transparency is currently debated in our society, with privacy and safety as arguments.

Writer, journalist and commentator Jan H. Landrowill interview one of the world’s leading drone experts, Professor Deborah G. Johnson, on September 13 from 6.30 pm to 7. 30 pm at the House of Literature in Bergen. Johnson (University of Virginia) is well known for her work on computer ethics and engineering ethics, and is also part of the ViSmedia project at the University of Bergen. She is visiting Bergen to attend the ViSmedia Fall Seminar.

In her latest book, ”Transparency and Surveillance as Sociotechnical Accountability: A House of Mirrors”, Johnson and co-editor Priscilla M. Regan use Facebook and Google as examples among others, and take a close look at surveillance and transparency practices and accountability.
