Hovedinnhold
Title:
The link between road safety and development
Presenter: Marie Hasselberg, Karolinska Institutet.
About the talk:
Worldwide, about 1.35 million people are killed and about 50 million are injured on the roads every year. Even though many countries have managed to improve road safety, the mortality remains unacceptably high in many countries of the world, especially in low- and middle-income countries, and place a high socio-economic burden in the most affected countries. Road traffic injuries have a negative impact on development of a country and the way the transport network is designed and developed affect road safety. There is a need to balance urban development with social, economic, and environmental sustainability, at the same time as emphasizing improved road safety.
Marie Hasselberg is a Professor in public health epidemiology and head of the Department of Global Public Health at Karolinska Institutet.
