KMD Strategic Funding 2026

Call for applications: Strategic Funding - Call 2, 2026, Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design (KMD)

KMD invites staff in permanent and fixed-term positions to apply for internal project funding. Project funding is now being announced for scientific research and artistic research, as well as support for research dissemination/ publishing. The application deadline is Thursday 28 May at 12:00.

Funding is being announced within the following three categories, with associated allocation frameworks:

1. Project: Artistic research100 000 NOK – 400 000 NOK 
2. Project: Scientific research100 000 NOK - 200 000 NOK
3. Dissemination / publication support (artistic or scientific research)max. 150 000 NOK  

Applicants must be employed at KMD in a permanent position or a fixed-term position with allocated research time. If the applicant holds a fixed-term position, the project period must fall within the term of appointment. PhD candidates, postdoctoral fellows, and staff in secondary positions or positions under 50% cannot apply on their own, but may participate in projects.

The project must be completed by 31.12.2027. In the application, you will be asked to provide a brief timeline outlining the project’s progress.

Applicants are advised that the Head of Department must be informed about the project well in advance of submission. In the application form, it must be confirmed that the Head of Department is aware of, and supports, the project description and the budget.

The following requirements apply to the different project categories:

Applications for projects in artistic research and scientific research:

  • Projects must be relevant to one or more research groups, and the project’s main activities must take place at KMD.
  • The projects must facilitate student involvement. Funding will not be granted to projects without student involvement.
  • Applications must account for ethical considerations.
  • Applications must provide information about additional funding, where applicable, including contributions from external partners.
  • Results from artistic research projects must be documented and published through KMD’s research portal in Research Catalogue within 6 months after the completion of the project. Any other dissemination channels must be described in the application.

Applications for dissemination/publishing support:

  • Applications for dissemination/publishing support must be for dissemination publications of artistic research or scientific research in a permanent format, e.g. book publication, music recording, publication in a journal.
  • Support may be sought for the presentation of time- and site-specific results, provided that these are documented in a permanent format and published on the faculty’s portal in Research Catalogue.
  • Applications must provide information about additional funding, where applicable, including contributions from external partners.
  • For book or recording projects, applicants must account for the following three points: 1) any agreement with a publisher, 2) print run, including justification for the number of copies, and 3) distribution and any revenue model.

Submission of applications:

The application deadline for strategic funds is  Thursday 28 May at 12:00, and applications must be submitted through a dedicated Microsoft Forms application form for KMD Strategic Funds. Applications must include a budget. Complete the attached budget template in Excel and convert the file to PDF before uploading it in the application form.

Applications submitted after the deadline or incomplete applications will not be considered. 

Assessment of applications:

Applications will be assessed based on relevance and added value for KMD, project quality, and feasibility. All applications will be finally processed by the faculty leadership in consultation with the research administration. Notification of the application outcome will be provided approximately one month after the application deadline.
