What was your background when you started studying system dynamics?

 My background was in Technology economy & management. 

Why did you choose to study System Dynamics?

In the field of social science and management, System Dynamics is a powerful tool which can not only do quantitative simulation but also qualitative analysis. It is the method that I have been looking for in my research work. Based on the education at UIB in System Dynamics, I started doing my PhD at Tongji University in China and successfully completed it thereafter.

What are your fondest memories from the time you spent studying System Dynamics at UiB?

 I have been exposed to the lively academic atmosphere and rigorous teaching style which will be a life time benefit. At the same time, I got to know some friends and establish the network which helped me a lot.

What was the topic for you Master Thesis?

Master Thesis: Subsidy Policy Design for Increasing Solar Photovoltaic Installed Capacity in China-A System Dynamics Based Study

Where are you working today?

I am the chairman of the department of Business Administration of Management School, Shanghai International Business and Economics University.

How has your education been relevant for you in your working life?

I have been teaching and doing research by using of System Dynamics which is exactly what I  have been educated at UIB.  The System Dynamics methodology and the way of systems thinking do help me in both my academic and administration work.

Would you recommend others to take a degree in System Dynamics? And if yes, why?

Yes, I would. Messy problems are everywhere in complex system in reality. By using System Dynamics simulation, people can gain wider and deeper insight about different scenarios in a visible way. Besides, Systems Thinking is to provide a learning and communication process for stakeholders, to share their mental model and eliminate their own bias, and finally to contribute to creating consensus.
