Examination and Diploma

The University of Bergen uses different forms of examination such as school examinations, assigned exam papers, take-home examinations and oral examinations. The type of examination may vary according to the subject.

Many courses require students to complete mandatory assignments (e.g. lab work or methodological assignments) or a term paper before being permitted to take examinations. Many language courses offer continuous assessment throughout the semester.

Before attending any examinations all students must read relevant examination information, including ‘Instructions for candidates’, ‘Use of sources in written work’ and more.

You will be given a new candidate number on StudentWeb for each exam registration..

Special Arrangements for Examinations

As a student, you can apply for special arrangements for the assessment if, due to illness, injury or disability, you have difficulty completing an assessment in the ordinary manner.

The use of sources in written work

It is your duty as a student to learn which rules that apply at the University of Bergen concerning source citations, referencing and plagiarism.

Appealing grades

If you receive a grade on an exam that you believe is incorrect, you can file a complaint about it.

Transcript of Records and Diploma registry

You can order a transcript of records with digital signature from Studentweb and order a Diploma when you have completed your degree.

Absence from an exam

What do you do if you are ill on your exam day, or get sick during the examination? What is valid absence and how do you register the absence?

Diploma Supplement

All graduates from the University of Bergen will automatically and free of charge receive a Diploma and a Diploma Supplement.
