Palaeomagnetism

Hovedinnhold

Palaeomagnetic methods have been used to study super-continent formation and breakup, true polar wander and palaeoclimate.

Palaeomagnetic methods have been used to study super-continent formation and breakup, true polar wander and palaeoclimate. Palaeomagnetic studies of glacial sedimentary deposits in northern Norway and concurrent dykes in southern Norway have been used to test the "Snowball Earth theory" by evaluating the palaeolatitude of this area during the relevant time interval. Proterozoic and Cambrian palaeomagnetic data have been analysed to evaluate true polar wander paths, non-dipole fields and global glaciations.
