Education quality

The course that has it all!

BIO300 has been awarded the Education Ministry’s top prize for quality for 2009 – a prize worth a half million NOK!

Hovedinnhold

According to Louise Lindblom, who has been responsible for the course for the past two years, it is a course that has it all - a veritable tool box of skills and experiences that Masters' students learn, and can take with them in future courses and research activities. The range of material taught focuses not only on research careers, but all kinds of biological careers that might follow completion of a Masters.

The Prize Committee noted the collaboration that the course designers have had with Bergen Kommune. In BIO300 the students have been analysing various water quality situations around the Kommune. A number of the monitoring activities are too small for a Kommunal activity, but taken together as a number of group results, the final results provide valuable information, especially as this course now has taken place for several years.

Professor Karin Pittman was responsible for the contact with Bergen Kommune and for setting up the course initially. She explains how important it is for students to have practical opportunities, and in addition, the Kommune's lab resources provide the students with analytical opportunities they might not have otherwise. It is a "win-win" situation!

In addition, BIO was awarded top learning milieu prize 2009. learn more
