Field course in south-east Spain

Yearly sedimentology cource for bachelor students

Hovedinnhold

Last week of October every year our students at Department of Earth science  bachelor-level sedimentology course GEOV107 are heading southwards to the Sorbas Basin in southeast Spain.

This year 42 students participated (in addition 25 more students taking the same course went to the Pyrenees the same week).

The field course was inititated by the late Professor Michael R. Talbot more than 20 years ago and is now led by Professor William Helland-Hansen and Associate Professor Gunnar Sælen.

This year PhD candidates Katharina Gobo and Christian Haug Eide assisted in the field.

The Sorbas Basin and surrounding basins offers a great variety of lithologies, sedimentary environments and structures within short distances. Left picture: Plio-Pleistocene fluvial deposits in the cliffs in the backround.
