John Birks - Distinguished Visiting Scientist

Congratulations to John Birks who has just been appointed Distinguished Visiting Scientist in the School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford with effect from 1 May 2010.

Hovedinnhold

The School of Geography and the Environment is where our Professor II Kathy Willis and her Long-Term Ecological Laboratory are based. The School has 40 academic staff and over 120 research and support staff. It has two distinguished visiting research associates and now one distinguished visiting scientist - John. The School was ranked joint first in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise of all UK universities.

John will build up Bergen-Oxford collaborative research in the next few years and is already involved with joint projects researching UV-B irradiance over the last 10000 years, assessing likely impact of future climate change on biodiversity in light of long-term ecological perspectives, and integrating long-term ecology and conservation biology and management practices.
