Angiogenesis and osteogenesis in bone tissue engineering

Bone tissue engineering is a promising strategy for reconstruction of bone defects, which combines stem cell, scaffolds and growth factors.

Hovedinnhold

We are combining endothelial cells with mesenchymal stem cells and seeding them onto biodegradable scaffolds to generate angioinductive and osteoinductive tissue-engineered constructs.  Improved bone healing can be achieved by the pre-vascularizing constructs with endothelial cells. In order to achieve ideal bone regeneration, there are still many parameters than need to be optimized. Ongoing project are focusing on the efficiency of bioactive scaffold with controllable growth factor delivery as well as surface modification for induction of angiogenesis.
