The Brussels Office

The Brussels office is established to strengthen UiBs presence in EU research politics. Office fascilities are at disposal for UiB employees for consortium meetings, workshops at request.

The University of Bergen Brussels Office is established to strengthen the University presence in EU research politics and as a resource for researchers who wish to strenghten international collaborations.

The University of Bergen Brussels office was formally established 15 September 2015. Through this office, the University will be able to offer assistance to researchers who need information, wish to build networks, or establish new partnerships in Brussels and the EU. The office is a joint venture between the University of Bergen, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and SINTEF, the largest independent research organisation in Scandinavia. Initially, it will be a three-year project.

Kristof Vlaeminck is the leader of the Brussels office. In addition to daily management tasks, the office leader will also have an advisory position to the university leadership with regards to ongoing developments in EU research politics.

Facilities available to UiB staff

UiB's Brussels office is co-located with the Geelmuyden Kiese Brussels Office, NTNUs and SINTEFs offices.In the building there is a large meeting room that seats up to 28 people around a table or 44 people with seating in rows. There is also a smaller meeting room with room for 6-8 persons. The premises can be used by UiB employees to host consortium meetings, workshops and more. The following facilities are available:

  • Projector and screen. NB: you need to bring your own laptop. (Mac users will also have to bring a converting cable)
  • Wireless internet. The network name is "The Brussels House". The password can be obtained upon request.
  • Access to outdoor area with seating.
  • Coffee and access to basic kitchen facilities.
  • Please note that those who use the premises are responsible for cleanup themselves.

Address and directions

The street address is Rue du Trône 61, 3rd floor, 1050 Brussels.

The premises are located in the middle of the European district of the city center, about a 5 minutes walk from the European parliament. The nearest metro station is Trône, located on lines 2 and 6. When you get out from the metro stop, turn left and cpontinue up Rue du Trône about 200 meters. The Brussels office is located on the right side of the road.

Alternatively the airport shuttle bus also stops at the junction between Place Luxembourg and Rue de Trèves, in close proximity to the office.
