Services and the Green Economy is a book that addresses a significant gap in the knowledge and understanding of sustainable economic development.  Bringing together a range of expert contributions, the publication analyses the role of services and service industries in the transition of a green economy. Framed by an approach within economic environmental geography, chapters written by leading researchers explore how service industries, service firms and service activities are at heart of green economic processes. Adopting a global perspective, it includes research providing a detailed insight into how the crucial role of service industry activity has often been ignored in current understandings of a green economic transition.

The initiative behind this book is the Green Economy Network that became a reality through a workshop held at Department of Human Geography at Stockholm University in November 2011. Later events have included sessions at several international conferences with the economic geographers Brita Hermelin (University of Linköping), Andrew Jones (City University, London), Patrik Ström (University of Gothenburg) and Grete Rusten (University of Bergen) and the receipt of funding from the European Association for Research on Services (RESER) in 2012. An initial workshop hosted by University of Bergen and funded through the Academic Agreement the university has with Statoil Nov. 2014 became the start of this edited book with chapters by authors from universities in Japan, Germany, Luxembourg, the UK, the USA, Chile, Sweden and Norway.
