Min forskningsinteresse handler om å forstå de molekylære mekanismene og prosessene som ligger bak toksisiteten forårsaket av eksponering for miljøgifter, og hvordan dette forplanter seg videre oppover i biologiske nivåer og gir effekter på individ og populasjonsnivå. Forskningen min fokuserer hovedsaklig på marine organismer, og sentrale temaer er hormonforstyrrende stoffer, kjernereseptorer, biomarkører, bioassays, mikroplast, integrativ genomikk, "nye" miljøgifter, og blandingseffekter.

For tiden leder jeg Plastnettverket ved Universitetet i Bergen. Plastnettverket omfavner tverrfaglig forskning om plast i havet. Dette innebærer tilstedeværelse, spredning og effekter av plast og mikroplast, samt den samfunnsvitenskapelige, juridiske og medisinske forskningen omkring plastproblematikken.
