Equity indicators in randomised controlled trials

While concerns to equity, inequality and distribution of health and welfare outcomes have received attention in policy agendas worldwide, little guidance has been provided on how to incorporate concerns to health equity into RCTs.

During the two day symposium 25 researchers and experts discussed how intervention science can improve equity in health going beyond the traditional RCTs. Furthermore, how to design, power, measure, and analyze equity impact in RCTs?

The outcomes of the symposium will be presented in peer-reviewed publications and development of Reporting guidelines for equity-relevant RCTs.

The symposium was held at Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health in Boston (USA) on September 22-23 and was co-led by the Campbell and Cochrane Equity Methods Group (University of Ottawa), the Centre for Intervention Science in Maternal and Child Health (University of Bergen), and the University of York Centre for Health Economics.
