The CAP trial
This multi-center randomized trial in South Africa, Argentina and Zimbabwe aiming to estimate the effect of calcium supplementation during pregnancy on the risk of re-current pre-eclampsia.
Hovedinnhold
Low dietary intake of calcium increases the risk of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, which are serious hypertensive disorders in pregnancy that are dangerous formother and baby. Although calcium supplementation is recommended by WHOfrom 20 weeks of pregnancy, no research has tested whether starting it beforepregnancy can reduce the risk among women with previous pre-eclampsia. Thismulti-center randomized trial in South Africa, Argentina and Zimbabwe estimatedthe effect of calcium supplementation before and in the first half of pregnancyon the risk of re-current pre-eclampsia.
